Safe HVAC Disposal Training for Licensed Scrap Metal Dealers

Kenya's HCFC phase-out took full effect January 1, 2026. Under the Montreal Protocol, every end-of-life AC unit arriving at a scrap yard must have its refrigerant gas recovered before the unit is processed. Yet 1,100 licensed scrap metal dealers currently operate with no training on safe gas handling — workers cut cylinders and gas escapes directly to atmosphere.

KSBS is closing this gap. Working through the dealer licensing office, we deliver a mandatory 1-day Safe HVAC Disposal Training as a prerequisite for annual license renewal. Recovery machines are deployed on-site. 100 dealers were trained in the pilot. The target is the full 1,100-dealer national network.
